I was on the first trip with 70013 today on the Forth Circle tour today. The first trip was slightly cold but absolutely wonderful, it's a fantastic sounding locomotive and really very impressive.

I headed out to Kennet, near Alloa for the second trip and took this:

Not a wonderful shot by any means, the light disappeared by then but something of the trip anyway.

Morning circle was a bit dull, but it brightened up nicely this afternoon, culminating in a really fine sunset, perfectly timed for 70013's crossing of the Forth at 8.24pm. One of those spine tingling moments as she opened up away from Dalmeny, the rhythm of the exhaust beat periodically broken by the sounding of the chime whistle until she disappeared into the distance on the other side of the estuary. Magic.

    Lovely shot Paul.

I decided on Friday, after seeing the forecast, to go up to Edinburgh on Saturday night and hire a car to chase the two trips. Checked forecast again on Saturday before I left, still showing as sunny. All day, the whole journey up there, sunny. Woke up at 7am to find it raining! I managed a few shots during the day, but nothing of any real note. My original intention was to either spend another night in Edinburgh or try and get a sleeper home, but after seeing how the cloud was starting to build up again, I decided at 5pm I'd drop the hire car off and head home. I really wish I hadn't now!

I got a few shots that might be ok, but I'll have to play around alot with some of them to get anything reasonable. Or just convert them all to b&w and be done with it!

The forecast suggested it should clear up by mid-late morning, but it didn't really clear until about 3-4pm and then there was still plenty of cloud around. I managed some sunshine in Fife and I gather it was also sunny around Plean, but I missed the full glint light at Park Farm by about a minute. The shot on the bridge made it all worthwhile, but it was a late enough finish and I only live down the road!
