LATEST NEWS

The boiler cladding is apparently complete and painted in gloss black. It is planned to refit the side tanks this weekend then attach the cab roof. Work will then commence to complete the pipework ready for streaming.

Hopefully RA&FC will be able to give a better update when he gets back from the railway (if his boots let him!).

Glad to hear that good progress is being made on her. Certainly will pay a visit when complete and get her in the book.

 

Oh yes. The tanks are back on, and it looks something like an engine again...

Now it's just having to refit all the other bits, make the pipework for the manifold. And then it's somewhere near...

So a steaming date?

What are the chances of 80072 being ready for the Autumn Steam Gala?

 

2 chances!!!!!!!!!!!

But all being well, and there are no hold ups, it should be ready. The current thinking is approx 8 weeks until it is somewhere complete and possible to start running in. But like all major ex Barry restorations, no real date can be put on the completion of a loco, and there may be problems that arise when it starts it's running tests.

It is expected to have 80072 in service by the autumn gala alongside 6430 / 44806 / 5643 and a couple of guest locos. There may even be a BR Jinty if we are really lucky!

 

A BR Jinty in time for the Autumn gala would be great!!!!

 

So then. Latest news on the tankee...

Today the cab roof will be going back on.

Most of the pipework has been completed, apart from the steam brake exhaust into the ashpan, and the final couple of feet of the 'small stuff' to the gauges in the cap.

Then there are only a few minor jobs to be completed, including fitting of a brick arch, and what should be appropriate as the last piece of this 20 year jigsaw - The regulator handle! \/

So the first steaming will be in a matter of weeks. \/ \/ \/

 

The team led by Peter Evans have done a wonderful job on what can be called a real Barry wreck.
Will the loco be coming to the carriage works for a proper paint job ?

It will be in the C & W works for a 'see your face in it' paint job...

The sanding down and filling of the tanks and bunker is well under way at the moment. But condidering they are the original ones, they are going to need a lot more!!!

So hopefully when I'm next down at the shed she will be fully completed? If not awaiting the finishing touches or down in the paint shop?

 

I saw this loco in the shed at the Steel Steam and Stars Gala and whilst there was some disappointment that it wasn't ready in time the people working on it who I spoke to said that they really needed to take the time to do it properly, especially after all the hard work so far. It would seem that their efforts are soon to be rewarded and we will get to see another of these really useful locos in working order very soon - well done!

 

Latest news.

There is only 1 more pipe to make! One of the grease feed pipes to the axelbox / hornguide has to be done now. Allthough a new flange has to be silver soldered onto one of the injector - water feed pipes. And the regulator rod is yet to be fitted.

The Boiler was filled with water on Saturday, and most of the 'little' jobs have now been completed...

So basically, the first 'Boiler in frame' or 'Completed engine' Fire will be lit later on this week...
