THE walk is just a quarter of a mile long – but for 2,000 people it will be a unique opportunity to cross one of the most famous viaducts in the world.

Network Rail and Friends of the Settle-Carlisle railway line are opening the Ribblehead Viaduct for one day only – for people to walk across.

That section of the railway is being closed for two weeks in July as part of a five-year, £60million upgrade of the line.

Now Network Rail has agreed to open the viaduct to the public on Sunday, July 22 the final day of the closure.
