Aeroexpress fleet celebrates production milestone

A new fleet of trains for Russian operator Aeroexpress has entered the final stage of assembly.

Manufacturer Stadler invited political and industrial leaders to its site in Switzerland to see the work being carried out.

Stadler is building 25 double-deck trains for Aeroexpress to operate services between Moscow and the city’s three international airports - Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo and Domodedovo.

The new fleet consists of nine six-car and 16 four-car KISS trains.

Expected to start service by the mid 2015, the new trains are wider than the conventional KISS model to operate on Russia’s broad gauge railway.

Peter Spuhler, owner and chief executive of Stadler Rail Group, said: “This second order from Russia represents an important milestone in the history of the company.

“Our trains already have a very good reputation in many countries in Europe. The new trains will allow passengers arriving by plane to avoid sitting in the infamous Moscow traffic and head straight to the city centre on our trains. This is something we are very proud of.”
