Alan Taylor 1926 – 2015

Discussion in 'On Track.' started by GWR Preservation Group, Sep 1, 2015.

Alan Taylor’s funeral details are as follows should members wish to pay their respects; it will be at Little Eversden Church, Cambridgeshire on Tuesday 8th September at 3.00pm.

He was one of GWR Preservation Group’s founder members (No.71) and assisted the then Chairman, Bob Gorringe, in the inauguration of the group. Working together within the Taylor Woodrow group, Alan’s daytime work role as quantity surveyor meant he worked closely with my uncle. For forty one years, he commuted to their offices in Croydon, Surrey and latterly at the Southall premises from his home in Northwood.

He was a keen model maker and railway enthusiast and the group has recently been donated his 00 gauge railway model of the Southall Railway Centre (SRC) site, as it was originally used. He also has a model railway in his shed.

Carpentry was in his blood and he always favoured that sort of preservation work at SRC, maintaining woodwork projects within our coaching stock, including the toilets. He was never afraid of heights and could be regularly seen on top of our coaches as well, repairing the roof cladding

He will be greatly missed for all his hard work and indeed his monetary donations to help the group along in difficult times. Alan leaves his wife Irene, son David and daughter Cheryl Helena and all members at GWRPG send our condolences at this time.

Michael Gorringe, Director and acting Chairman.
