Alstom to complete Baltimore LRV overhaul

Baltimore’s entire fleet of light rail vehicles are to be upgraded by Alstom in a contract worth around $150 million.

The overhaul programme will be carried out over the next five years with a maximum of five trains being taken out of service at any one time.

Work will be carried out at Alstom’s Hornell depot in New York.

By the time the LRV returns to revenue service it will have had new on-board automatic train control, propulsion, CCTV and climate control systems installed, as well as new seats, doors and carpets.

Alstom has said that the overhaul will add 15 years to the lifespan of each vehicle.
