Alstom wins role on Bangkok Green Line extension

Alstom has won a 14 million euro contract to help deliver a 12.6 km to Bangkok’s elevated metro system.

As well as designing and building the trackwork and third rail power collector for the Green Line extension, Alstom will construct a 48-acre depot which will maintain the fleet of 40 vehicles due to operate on the new route.

The contract was awarded by CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited – the general contractor and designer leading the delivery of the new line from Bearing to Samutpakran.

Work is due to start on the extension, which will include an additional nine stations, by the end of 2014, working to a completion date of 2017.

The Thai government has already committed 52.7 billion euros to improving transport infrastructure in the country in an attempt to ease congestion on Thailand’s main road networks, with the majority of the investment directed toward rail projects.
