An English Atlantic in exile

    The last few years the active members of our narrow-gauge railway (https://www.oslj.nu/en-GB ) have been invited to the live steam railway of two of our members, Rolle and Kia. Each time just a fantastic day with several of their 7 ¼“ steam locos in steam. Their railway is just a loop around the house, but with a height difference of 2 meters, it is great fun to drive. Most of their locos they have built themselves and are models of 600 mm locos (about 4” scale), but in recent years Rolle has taken over a number of half-finished projects and some older locos in need of overhaul.

    One of these locos has an English background and it would be very interesting if the members of this forum could provide some more information about the loco. The loco is an Atlantic, built in 1952 at a school somewhere in England. Probably used at a park railway, unknown where and later bought by Paul Penfold (https://www.bbm.org.uk/airmen/PenfoldPE.htm). In 1984 it was bought to Sweden by Bo Örnvinge and used during the 80-ties at the biggest 7 ¼“ railway, BMÅS outside Borås in Sweden.     After that the Atlantic was bought with a condemned boiler by Karl Kindgren. He started his professional railway career as fireman on some of the last narrow-gauge steam locos operated by Swedish State Railways in the late 1950-ties. Being a professional driver at SJ he wanted a “Swedish” loco and started a meticulous rebuild of it. His joy and pride in this was making all the small details and fittings and getting the loco finished was probably not the highest priority. Wen he passed away some years ago it was unfinished. Rolle took over and built a new boiler (he is a coded welder). With all the details made, he had little choice but finish it along the intentions of Mr. Kindgren.

    It has now been successfully test run on the private garden railway. There, the curve radii are too tight for the Atlantic and Rolle has made an extra Bissel bogie, making it a 2-4-2. Shifting bogies is made in 15 minutes.

    Does anyone have more information where it was built and where it was operated in Britain? Photos?
