The semi dereliction and squalor of the average British steam shed is something that preservation cannot replicate but Didcot is as close as you can get. A very pleasant charter on Saturday with 1450, 9466 and supporting cast.

Very nice set of shots John, especially the after dark ones. As you say, it doesn't duplicate what we experienced in the 1960's, mostly filthy engines, broken down buildings and facilities. It does look like railway modelling at 12 inches to the foot!
The nearest I have come to this effect is in the States at Ely Nevada and Chama on the C&TS, walking through their engine sheds both still sent shivers of sentiment down the spine for me.
