Loco may or may not be correct for the location. NER 2012.jpg

Some suggestions I have seen are LNWR or possible North British.

The loco is a NER R class - LNER D20, so would surmise somewhere on one of the North Eastern's main lines.

    Cheers,

Trouble is the signals etc are not NER.
Hence my earlier comment that the Loco may or may not be correct for the location.

understand that the NER had running rights over lots of the North British system

I would go for an NBR location as well. The saddle tank loco on the right looks like a class J81 (NBR Class E). The large water tank suggests a loco shed nearby. St Margarets, Edinburgh perhaps?

I would hazard a guess as Edinburgh's Portobello Junction with the Waverley route curving away to the left in front of the houses and the once extensive Portobello yard with its J81 shunter on the right. St Margarets shed was in an urban location with a road bridge crossing the ECML and the shed access lines and the shed straddled the ECML being effectively 2 separate units.

I'll second that. The track alignment looks identical to later photos I've seen taken at that location.

I have been given another photo that no one so far can identify the location.
Can anyone here come up with a suggestion?

The photographer was from York and the suspicion is that it may be within the Vale of York somewhere but that could include the Scarborough or Harrogate lines. However some parts of the Beverley - Bridlington line look like this as well.
I do not have a date either.

    Thanks
