Here's an interesting one in the south.

Torbay Express Ltd - Poole to Oxford with either Britannia or DoG
SD - London to Weymouth via Yeovil Pen Mill with Bittern (DL from Pen Mill to Weymouth)
RTC - London to Weymouth via Soton with both Tangmere and Oliver Cromwell.

Not much scope here for any last minute substitutions if there is a problem. So do we all book and hope for the best or take the cautious 'on the day' approach?

Thanks a lot for this info Dick, really helpful! I am in Bristol next Monday for 4464, so will make an effort to see her!

A bit of a shame the DSE has been re-routed via Westbury, although it will be a sight to see 71000 on Upton Scudamore :)

Never a dull moment James when something has to go up Upton Scudamore!

I just hope there is a decent load, I think it was 8(?) coaches on the Windsor trip (plus the dead box), which didn't cause too many problems! Might even make my first visit to Upton Scudamore... if I can find a decent spot!

The Steam Dreams charter is no longer heading for Weymouth. It will now terminate at Yeovil Jct.

Thanks to uksteam for the info. <BJ>

On the Westbury side of the Upton Scudamore overbridge you can walk down to a field where the main gallery of photographers assemble. If you venture into the field try not to upset the farmer. <BJ>

Interesting. I was expecting it to be the other way around: Tangmere down to Weymouth and Ollie back up to the Smoke. I have no direct information supporting this. It's just my deduction, given that Ollie is expected to work The Royal Duchy on Sunday. Several times this summer, the loco that worked RTC's Sunday train from Bristol then worked the up Dorset Coast. Either way, a BoB and a Brit on the Sou'Western mainline is a sight, and a sound, to be relished.

The challenge for the Lineside Brigade will be how to see all three tours at the optimum spots. The Duke at Upton Scudamore is something not to be missed, though I suspect the climb will be over very quickly.

UKsteam reckons that it is 34067 down and one of the Brit's back... Anyway, it will be nice to see either engine.

Just on a separate note, does anyone know if 71000 has been over Upton Scudamore before? I can't remember seeing it in magazines or anyone ever mentioning it, I just wondered if it actually had? As Mark said, it will be over very quickly and will be quite a sight!

Yes, with The Cathedrals Express on 20th July 2005 (and possibly other occassions). I have shots of her on Steam Age Pictures Vol. 8 on a rather gloomy summers day racing past Crofton pumping station in the morning and then romping up Upton Scudamore in the evening as though it were no more than 1 in 200!

I've managed to find a photograph of the train at Upton Scudmore. As Mark mentioned, it was on 20th July, 2005. <BJ>

Thanks both. Of course, I remember seeing this tour at Newbury and Andover (how could I forget!).
