The weekend of Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th August sees us celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the line between Mangotsfield and Bath on August 4th 1869.

As part of the celebrations we will have a ‘History Marquee’ which will showcase many of the industries that have played a part in the local area throughout the years. We will also have three model railway layouts to see, these being ‘St Philips’ from Thornbury & South Gloucestershire Model Railway Club, ‘Mangotsfield’ courtesy of David Bradley, and finally the magnificent ‘Bath Green Park’ courtesy of Taunton Model Railway Group. This is a great opportunity to see these layouts together, we believe for the first time, showing the three main points of the Midland Railway between Bristol and Bath.

We will also be having a vintage vehicle display, shire horses, morris dancers (Saturday only), a shuttle bus to Warmley Signal Box which will be open for viewing, and our recently restored Fry’s Sentinel will be giving brake van rides at Avon Riverside over the weekend.

Despite a great deal of effort on the part of the event organising team, we have been unable to secure a guest locomotive for the event. We have been on the hunt for appropriate guest locomotives for the past 18 months, however, none of the locomotives we have enquired about are available for hire due to a variety of reasons. While we have had a couple of offers from railways for guest locos, we felt that those offered were not appropriate for the event. That being the case, we would still like to thank those that offered to help, it is very much appreciated.

We will be aiming to run an intensive timetable that we have become known for, utilising our home fleet of locomotives. As part of this we will also see our usual offers of footplate and brake van rides over the weekend.

We hope you will join us for what is sure to be a special weekend to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of our line!
