I've just read that Mayflowers boiler ticket is up this year. Does anyone know if its planned to visit any other railways before it expires, and the plans for overhaul if there are any?

The last overhaul she had took 20 odd years i believe, though this was from scrap condition i think. I hope it doesn't go out of action for that sort of time again. I've yet to be lucky enough to catch her in steam.

Not sure about scrap condition 1306 was a mainline runner in the 1970s...
(the other B1..61264 came from barry)

Thats true actually. I'd forgotten that!

I always hear the Mr Boden does his best to keep his engine in prestine condition. Hopefully, that being the case, not to much will need doing.

61306 is certainly kept in immaculate condition, and it hasn't lead a hard life since its last overhaul, but its boiler and mechanics will still have sustained wear just like any other engine!

I recall seeing 1306 at SSS2.... the only time you could get a picture of it was when it was moving... any other time there was a cleaning squad working on it..
In fact if I look closely I'm sure the driver has a cleaning rag wiping the glasses whilst leaning out of the cab on the run to Berwyn :)

My wife's a clean freak and even she commented about the pride being extoiled onto the engine, even the NRM must be jealous.

But then If I owned a B1.. i'd probably be the same

It is kept VERY clean! But just because it's clean it doesn't mean it requires any less work to overhaul! lol I'm amazed to hear the loco is out of ticket this year - is it really ten years since it was back? Just to correct the OP - 61306 did steam in preservation prior to this current stint, but the last overhaul was lengthy - although I'm not sure if it was as much as 20 years(?).

Fantastic looking loco and a shame it's not been out and about more. Would look rather nice on the SVR's or NYMR's teaks...

What are the plans for the loco during the remainder of the ticket? It's currently at the Battlefield Line (IIRC?) - is it due to work out its ticket there or are there other plans?

It ran on the GCR until about 1989 (ish) when it left for the Nene Valley. If the overhaul took 20 years then it must have about 8 years left on its ticket, or my maths is a bit out.

Sorry, i wasn't aware that it ran on the GCR. I knew it went to Loughborough but wasn't aware it was running at the time. But then i would have been 4 when it left. I should have paid more attention to the basics really. Its there in black and white on wikipedia:

So the overhaul would have taken 12 years by my very questionable maths.

According to their supporting group's website, the official hydraulic test was passed on the boiler on 16th November 2001 and, as I understand it, that is what sets the clock ticking. However, as has been said on here a number of times, there's no such thing as a 10 year certificate and it may be able to carry on beyond then at the discretion of the insurer's engineer, so they might get another year or two out of it, given its light use over the last ten years, or they might be able to do a quick turn around on its next overhaul.

I think ownership has passed to Gerald Boden's son - the king is dead, long live the king!

The only time I've ever seen/ridden behind it was at SSS2, and I remember overhearing 6100's crew (prior to it teaming up with 1306 for a double header) exclaim in jocular fashion that it was one of the few locomotives where you have to wear carpet slippers on the footplate after wiping your feet on a mat! It did look good in the sun, just a shame that there were relatively few opportunities for a ride behind it at that gala. A credit to the late Mr. Boden and his accomplices.

    Hi there,

"Mayflower" is not yet advertised as she hasn't yet returned from bottom-end overhaul. She is however "planned" to run Easter Sat, Easter Sun nad Easter Monday. The 38xx No3803 will be taking a break that weekend.

Keep an eye on the website, it will be up soon!

    Sam

Can anyone tell me please when 1306 worked on the Severn Valley? Not able to find anything on their website. I've a photograph of it at Kidderminster.
