Bailey's Tramroad, Govilon, Wales

A visit to Abergavenny on 25th April 2022 for a meeting gave me an hour so so to start a look at the historic transport hub that is the village of Govilon where Bailey's Tramroad, and the Llanvihangel Tramroad met on the side of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. The site also includes the remains of the later Heads of the Valley Railway Line.

Its a lovely walk along the old track bed of the big railway that hugs the canal for much of the way. Interesting to see the remnants industrial past around there too. I think there are some old lime(?) kilns near there too from memory.

 

It was only a quick visit this time. There is clearly a lot more to see and do. .....

 

A return visit to Govilon included a visit to private land around the location of the Ironworks to the West of the village, the Merthyr, Tredegar and Abergavenny Railway, and Bailey's Tramroad. ...
