Where and when appropriate I'll put up individual threads in the 'Events' section but for now I thought you might all appreciate an overview of what is planned at Barrow Hill Roundhouse in 2013....

    Saturday 30th March "Southern Saturday"
Celebrating the official launch of the Brighton Belle with all five restored vehicles on display for the first time since 1972. In keeping with the 'Southern' theme, a 'slam door' 4-VEP, top and tailed by a Class 33 and Class 71, will operate throughout the day.

Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May "Rail Ale"
In its 12th year, bigger than ever, with over 200 different real ales, as well as an impressive range of ciders, perries, bottled beers and fruit wines. Not forgetting the steam train rides and live music! Tickets go on sale on 1st March 2013.

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June "Roundhouse Open Days" in association with Chesterfield Canal
Experience the Roundhouse at work with the resident Peckett steam engine and 03 diesel shunter hauling passenger trains, turntable demonstrations and signal box tours. Then take a boat trip along the canal or a bus ride and join in the fun at Staveley Basin.

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September "Barrow Hill Live! celebrating Doncaster 160"
Bringing together some of the best model layouts in the country alongside a host of full size locomotives as we celebrate 160 years of Doncaster Works. Guest engines to be confirmed.

*Please note there is an entry charge for special events.

Barrow Hill Roundhouse is open to the public every weekend (except during the Christmas and New Year holiday period) from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Other than for special events, entry is by donation. There is an onsite cafe and shop and ample parking.

For further information on all these events and other activities at the Roundhouse please visit our website Welcome to Barrow Hill, Britain's only surviving operational Roundhouse Engine Shed, Chesterfield or follow us on Facebook (Barrow Hill Roundhouse Railway Centre) or Twitter (@barrowhill41).

Apologies all, I was given slightly misleading information regarding the 30th March "Southern Saturday" event. The word 'restored' should be taken out of the original post - it will be the first time all five vehicles have been put together since 1972 but the restoration is not yet complete. Sorry everyone - but we hope you'll agree this is still an event worth coming to!
