Narrow gauge operator Euskotren has awarded CAF a €150 million contract for 28 new trains.

The order will be split into two parts, with 12 units to go to the new Line 3 in Bilbao and 16 to replace the Series 200 and 300 fleets.

The three-car units will be based on the Series 900 electric multiple-units already in service.

Delivery of the new vehicles will take place between 2015 and 2020, with the first trains due to come into service in late 2016 with the opening of the Line 3 metro between Etxebarri and Matiko.
