Yes I am an active volunteer
Our Saturday family day out was selected by my wife who thought our two might like to meet postman pat . spirits were uplifted when it was pointed out that this was to take place at Shackerstone station . Something verging on joy when I discovered that not only was (6)1306 Mayflower rostered but also that the former LNER Beavertail was in operation plus Blue Circle was giving brake van rides

A few pictures from the day http://martincreese.fotopic.net/c1875688.html

Now the Battlefield line probably gets a little overshadowed by it's near neighbour at Loughborough and certainly i'd don't recall seeing any no press that the beavertail was there

The tea room was cracking , the staff superbly friendly and welcoming and my two ignored Pat completely and remember 5542 is visiting soon

I was there last week as well and had a very nice day and was made to feel very welcome. It was a diesel day so didn't get to see Mayflower or Blue circle but did get a ride on the Beavertail which made a nice change. Enjoyed the tea room as well. Agree that it doesn't get as much publicity as it deserves as its a great little line. My only minor criticism was that they have a lot of old rolling stock and loco's parked about that look like they will never move again, even my girlfriend noticed this.

Only just seen this Martin - Got to agree great little railway that certainly doesn't get much press - Certainly your post is the first I have heard of the Beavertail being there (even the VCT register seems not to know) - Does anybody know how long it's been there and how long it is staying?

I and my finance have just returned from a lovely relaxing day the railway. I am posting to say thanks to the volunteers who made us feel so welcome and to highlight that it’s a great day out.

The tea room is fab, with great value food, and friendly staff - you get a proper northern sized tea pot too!

The loco today was GWR 3803 - which was very nicely turned out although not stretched by the length of the journey -the crew did get a bit of bark out of her.

It’s great that the line has an attraction at the end - with a nice walk through the woods to Battle of Bosworth Field Visitor Centre. The Centre has a good exhibition to put the battle into context - you can even try on some replica battledress - the chainmail is rather heavy!

All in all a great day - and a line I would recommend people to visit.

(I would agree with other posters the issue of the sidings of stock that does not look great - although from posts on her it would seem the railway is trying to resolve this!) I hope that they can gain access to the Goods Shed at Market Bosworth - as I am sure this could made into a great museum/visitor centre.

Thank you very much. I was firing 3803 on that day. Glad you had a good time with us on the Battlefield Line. We are always pleased to hear of people having a nice time with us.

A bit of bark? Yes - We did a little! After all, we do have some gradients, particularly leaving both Shenton and Shackerstone.

The stock issues in the sidings are a shame but, unfortunately, there is simply nowhere else to put the various loco's without blocking the running lines. We hope that you can forgive us for this. We try and keep as much out of public view as possible.

The Goods Shed? The railway is holding the Models Weekend in there at the end of May. We are also operating to MB, picking up and setting down, for the next 2 weekends. Keep an eye on the Railway's website for more details on that.

For your interest, I have a railway blog and there is a blog of 3803 last Sunday on there if you would like a read www.sambrandist.blogspot.com

Once again, thank you for visiting and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
