Excellent programme about the recreation of a fully working coal-fired Edwardian fish and chip shop at Beamish Museum. Available on iplayer until 27 April:

As a fourth generation chippy and someone who still uses a Henry Nuttall range, this was a hugely interesting programme. Never had any experience of a coal fired range though as gas arrived in the shop and household before I did.

There is a similarly restored chippy at the Black Country museum in Dudley. Quite honestly the best chips that I have ever tasted, done in beef dripping. I keep inventing excuses to go back...
