Ivatt GNR 'Long Tom' 0-8-0. Comprised Classes Q1, Q2 and Q3. The Q2 had bigger cylinders than the Q1 and the Q3 had a bigger boiler than a Q2 so not easy to say which is which from a shot of a partially dismantled one.

    Neil,
I really like your photos, keep them coming, very interesting.
But: you have repeatedly been asked to keep posting to one thread and not keep starting new ones, and/or use the Photography area. Please can you heed this?
The new posts, doesn't bother me too much personally, but the ignoring of what others are asking politely is rather tedious.
    Keep them coming, though.

I usually do put them in the photography section, but with this being a Question, and there not being a Question section that is why it appears here

    sorry for the confusion

But are those requests coming from the mods, or one or two random users with a bee in their bonnet? If he's checked with forum moderators and they're happy with his posts, then that's fine. If they're not happy then they don't need you or me to tell them what to do.

Personally it seems to me better to have short threads on a specific set of photos than a thread from hell that drags on for ever. The main thing, to me, is that such threads don't dominate the forum. If say no more than one thread in 25 was one of these that would be fine. If they dominate the content that would be undesirable. But I'm just another random user hearing a buzzing sound...

My post was rather officious and priggish, wasn't it? Suitably chastised now, my apologies.

Without fanning the flames but couldn't Neil simply open a thread on the Photographic Section noted "Photos to Identify" and then (a) he could put any queries into one location whilst (b) the amateur detectives would know where to look and monitor for further queries in order to assist.

That would also be a more informative title than "Bit of help needed please", which could apply to many kinds of enquiry.

Titles can be updated by edited the first post on the thread, so can be updated to say "New NSR locos to identify please" or similar, so folk with knowledge of a particular company who might not normally bother looking pop in for a browse.

I think if it goes into the photography section dark room then those who quite like the occasional challenge probably won't go there and miss out.

That was the reason I put it in the Steam traction section in the first place

Fair enough, but one thread that gets updated also has the advantage of alerting previous detectives that there's an update, as they're already subscribed to the topic.
