    I see in the Telegraph today that the hlicopter pilot has been fined £1250 for getting too close (under 500ft) to the Royal Scot.

    It is very difficult for a person on the ground to accurately estimate the height of a helicopter or plane. At an airshow I went to some years back they ran a competition 'guess the height', three different sized planes did a fly past at what it turned out was the same height, 200 feet, the guesses ranged down to less than 50 feet. Few actually guessed over the actual height.

    Beat me to it Ralph. Height is a notoriously difficult thing the judge. Something at 1000 ft but in the distance will appear to be a lot lower than something at 500 ft but closer. The size of the aircraft involved is also a major factor.
