    I have always been a fan of the standards, being born in 1948, my first recollection of them was in 1960 when I started trainspotting in Taunton when a Brit headed a Cardiff to Paignton train.

    I now operate a big railway in my double garage. There are 3 engine sheds so that all regions can be catered for; WR, SR and LMR/ER. I have 140 locmotives shared between these depots. Each one has at least one standard allocated to it as follows:
    70015 Apollo (Hornby) - WR
    70050 Firth of Clyde (Hornby) - MR
    73014 (Bachmann) - SR
    73026 (Bachmann - MR
    73030 (Bachmann) - MR
    75001 (Bachmann) - MR
    75003 (Mainline) - WR
    75006 (Mainline) - WR
    76069 (Bachmann) - SR
    92220 Evening Star (Bachmann) - WR
    92221 (Hornby) - MR

    Your first photo of a busy Shrewsbury station was of interest. I have a big double garage layout and one generic services so all regions can be accommodated. Each circuit represents 3 miles and so a trip from Bristol up to Shrewsbury, 109 miles, will use 37 circuits. All train run to a timetable starting at 0505 (Nottingham to Plymouth) and finishes at 2240 as the 2030 Manchester pulls into Plymouth, 18 hours after the day started!! Crazy? I must be.

    Last Saturday, and this is the reason for the post, 73030 took over at Shrewsbury from 70015 ex Bristol and proceeded to Manchester Piccadilly while in the opposite direction, 1020 County of Merioneth, took over from 46162 on the first leg from Manchester.

    It is all a fantasy world, but great fun all the same and equally exhausting especially in hot weather!!
