    Heritage Railway Volunteer:
Yes I am an active volunteer
News has reached us on Sunday 13th September that Brian Wood, our former Vice Chairman, passed away. We all will sadly miss Brian. Brian had been had been battling with chest cancer and had seemingly got over the worst and was told by doctors he can return home from hospital when he suddenly passed away. As you can imagine it was a shock to his wife Pam and family.

Malcolm Hills (as Chairman) and Brian were instrumental in starting a volunteer group around 2001 when nothing was happening at the railway. They were joined by Colin Dye, our volunteer liaison officer and from there with a trickle of volunteers started the job of getting a railway running. When I joined around 2003, things were still small but I felt there was a determination to get a railway running. That happened in October 2004, almost 10 years to the day since the underground stopped running in September 1994.

Brian was very supportive of new and established volunteers and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. Brian helped the younger volunteers on the railway with finding suitable jobs for them to do. Not an easy task these with more attention being paid to their safety.

Brian is survived by his wife Pam, his sons and daughters, their families and a special mention to Ben who was one of the under 16 volunteers Brian worked with.
