Rail commuters endured extensive delays on Monday evening as the extreme heat caused railway lines to buckle.

Many services from New Street Station in Birmingham had to be cancelled and some passengers had to wait more than two hours.

Trains to the East Midlands were also affected because of signalling problems in Kingsbury in Warwickshire.

Network Rail said engineers were working on both problems and services are set to run as normal on Tuesday.
