    Hi Guys
As usual I find myself chasing items not found at Heritage sites, although in some cases they are simply hidden from public view.
A report I received on 7/3/12 from all the various Cambrian sites found the following missing.

Llynclys - There were 4 4w flats (possibly ex tanks) here numbered as 1 to 4 on the corner of the frames. They were ex Aberthaw PS, 20/6/08. Numbers 1 & 2 are still here but 3 & 4 have remained elusive for a long time.

Oswestry - BR Brake Van 955055, not noted since 2009.
Also not found at Oswestry and a little off topic for this thread are 3 loco's. Steam AB 885. Diesel RH 412427 & FH 3057 which I believe was reduced to a rolling chassis.

Any help with confirmation appreciated as always.
    Cheers
    Steve

    Hi Guys
A grounded van was noted at Oswestry that was causing me some problem with identification.

With some help from Chris & the L&YR society we now know what this is & very rare it is indeed.
It's a L&YR 4w Covered Carriage Truck to diagram 113, built 1900c. This is NPCCS, not a wagon.
There were very few of these built & the length would be useful to know as they did vary, although 21ft was the most common with 10 known examples.
Is this part of the Cambrian under development? Is the van at risk? It may be wise to make it known if the Cambrian decide to dispose of this.
    Cheers
    Steve

Hi Steve, sorry I've not responded for a couple of day to our exchange on your e-group - it's been a long & stressful week at work... Alas, to answer your queries:

    # The Barclay steam loco 885 is still very much on site - it was located on the 'town' side of the shed in the open air.

    # The chassis 3057 was scrapped on site last year.

    # Diesel RH 412427 is better known as 'Scottie' - I dare say that number won't mean a thing to most volunteers. It's owned by the Cambrian Diesel Group, a consortium of friends & volunteers. AFAIK it's in the workshop at the moment.

    # BR brake van 955055 is also still on site - being restored in the workshop, and hence as you say, out of public view.

    # The Aberthaw chassis info reported by 'ilvaprovista' is correct AFAIK - I recall at least one was bent, so it was logical to gas axe it.

    # I will pass your info about the L&YR van body to my father, who is one of the trustees - but please let's not have a Corporal Jones session :) That area of the yard is not so much under threat of development as enjoying tidy up - I think you'll agree it will benefit. Frankly, one of the joys at Oswestry is the lack of a cutting or similar to hide junk, ahem, I mean resources lol ;)

On the tidying up note, I understand a reshuffle of the rolling stock is to take place in Oswestry soon, which will include moving out of prime public view as far as possible, items which are under restoration. Again, please don't panic - but I'm sure many will agree we can't have the Cambrian looking like a scrap yard.

...On more poigant note, the historic ex Llansantffraid signal cabin which stood in the corner of the yard near the restored station building fell victim to an arson attack recently :( A man in his 30s is 'assisting police with inquiries' and has been remanded in custody on a separate matter. It remains to be seen whether the police can nail someone for the five fires which took place over a couple of days in the area, which included that in an empty shop.

    Anyway, hope this helps,

    Gareth :)

Thanks for the help guys. It always helps to keep thinks tidy & up to date.
The L&YR van is a great discovery. The half height sliding door is actually as built, not a later conversion as I first thought. Not only is this a rare type of L&YR NPCCS its the "only" L&YR NPCCS I know to have survived. I do hope it'll be safe.
Gareth - I have the original drawings for this in PDF format. If you wish PM me your email address & I can attach it for you.
    Cheers
    Steve
