    (head)Cambrian Transport Extravaganza this Saturday

Over 50 vintage vehicles are set to descend on Oswestry town centre this Saturday (April 20) when the Cambrian Heritage Railways (CHR) holds its popular Vintage Vehicle Extravaganza.

Owners of 40 cars, nine motorbikes, four lorries and two fire engines have pledged to attend. The event will be held at the old station yard on Oswald Road in Oswestry between 11 and 1500hrs. Entry is £2 for adults, with children free.

Heritage train rides will be on offer at Owestry and the CHR’s other operation four miles south at Llynclys.

An added attraction is the opportunity to ride a vintage bus free of charge. Tanat Valley Coaches has kindly agreed to provide its 1961 Leyland Tiger Cub, normally used on wedding hires, to operate a shuttle bus service between Oswestry and Llynclys railway stations.

Not to be forgotten is the popular Buffers tea room will serve a delicacy in the shape of hot pork baps – in addition to its familiar range of snacks, drinks and cakes.

CHR Spokesman Gareth Evans said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming so many different heritage vehicles to our site in Oswestry. This event proved to be very popular in the past – and I’m sure Saturday will be no different. From the comfort of the brakevan on the train, visitors will also be able to see the impressive progress we’re making on restoring the former up platform in front of the station building to its full 12 coach length.”

    NOTES TO EDITORS
    # Cambrian Heritage Railways is the umbrella body created in 2009 to deliver a heritage railway for the Oswestry area – and which has seen the once rival Cambrian Railways Society and Cambrian Railways Trust join forces.
    # Public trains operate at two separate sites – at Llynclys and Oswestry. Work to restore the Gobowen to Blodwell branch, which will eventually link the two locations, is currently underway.
