SD website shows 44932 working this train rather than Bittern as originally advertised.

Couldn't find any timings on RTT but the SD website has timings up at http://www.steamdreams.com/executables/GT410WebContent.exe?ActionCode=Timings

Worting Junction-Salisbury in 37 minutes looks rather challenging for a loco limited to 60mph.

From an A4 to a Black 5. Yes it's steam and nothing is guaranteed etc etc.....but I suspect there will be a few disappointed passengers on this one. As always, if it matters, then wait till 24 hours before and then book if you can get on.

It's a bit like booking a holiday to the Maldives and, at the last moment, the travel agent telling you your'e going to Blackpool instead.....................................................

Slightly OT, but last year there was a tour down here with a Black 5 given 20 minutes start to pass to cover 21 miles from Salisbury to Warminster - an average speed of over 60mph, and involving a steady climb that must be about 20 miles at 1 in 250ish!

Booked on this one only a couple of days ago by phone and no mention then that it wasn't the A4. Very disappointed but won't get caught out like that again.

If you book on a steam trip with any company that uses DBS - thinking of Pathfinder and UKRT, for example - should there need to be a change of steam motive power (and well done everytime that the TOC manages to sort something out) then there is a pretty good chance that you will still get a Pacific or something else with a 75 mph max. But on a RTC or SD trip, that may not be the case. I'm not having a go at anyone here just making the observation that has to be part of the thinking nowadays when you book in advance.

Yes, that's quite a difference. I too would be disappointed. 44932 now mentioned by 'uksteam' for the tour. <BJ>

I can readily accept a failure on the day, or within 24 hours or so of a tour running at the FTR exam or similar, but to change the advertised/rostered loco about a week beforehand and not publicise the change seems underhand to me.

UK steam also says 44932 in convoy to Dereham MNR on the same date as the tour.

I'd expect the 8F to take it's place in the convoy.

Not just underhand but if they knew about the change a clear case of mis-selling.

Why not send 46115+45699 to Dereham from the Steamtown, then on the return of the Cath Ex when the '5' detaches at Willesden, moves L/E to the Mid-Norfolk via Ely overnight....?

I think the root problem is allocating a loco to schedule it's just not capable of meeting, Black Fives are fine enough on their own itineries, but it's not a class 7 rated at 75MPH.

The times for the engine and stock moves do NOT apply. They were left in from a previous Salisbury trip in error.

Still at Carnforth, will probably move to Rugby early in the morning the day of the tour with the empties, then I've heard she is coming off at Willesden or Acton on the return, can anyone confirm this...?

So, yet another Steam Dreams tour that has a foreshortened steam section. Tour was originally advertised as steam Rugby - Salisbury - Rugby l know circumstances can change but at present you have a much less than 50% chance of experiencing what you thought you were buying as a Steam Dreams customer, which is simply not good enough and is significantly worse than either RTC or VT, both of whom also use WCRC as their TOC.
