The centenary of a rail crash in Shrewsbury which killed 18 people has been marked by a memorial service.

In October 1907, a mail train from Manchester passed a red signal at speed and hurtled into Shrewsbury station before the train derailed on a bend. Residents rushed to help in a desperate attempt to cut people free. The exact cause of the crash is not known.
