Bit of news, our Junior Membership is being relaunched. Aimed at enthusiasts aged up to 14, there is a number of incentives to encourage those eligible to join.
The Railways Junior Club, The CVR Steamers Are Back And Better Than Before ! Churnet Valley Railway

Our next public steaming date is the evening of February 14th with an evening supper train to celebrate Valentine's day.

Then it is our steam Gala as detailed above.

There are other operating dates, but these are private charters. Not sure which groups are doing what though.

Our running dates for March onwards are due out in the next couple of weeks.

Nice bit of freeloading there. Sorry the loco failed and you couldn't get some more shots.

Not like you can't stop people from walking on a public path/canal place taking photos.

No but there is a difference between someone coincidently walking past and taking a shot, and someone making an effort to go for a shot.

Sorry Frank but bad call if what 5944 says is true. Would hope a donation to Warwick/Matt or CVR is at least made.

No, but the shots around Oakamoor are in a farmer's field that we had permission to be in. Funny how you managed to join us for them.

As lil Bear suggests, a donation towards the cost of the charter would be nice. We all paid £50 for the priviledge, it's only fair you should contribute as well. You wouldn't want a reputation as a freeloading scumbag now, would you?

Correct me if I'm wrong and this isn't a dig at anyone but if the photo charters dates weren't put up on this forum then maybe people wouldn't of known the loco was doing a photo charter other than the people booked on the charters???

I know your question is specific to this charter with 31806 but to widen it out, how are people like Ian Bowskill and Martin Creese supposed to advertise charters without telling people the date?

It's not the fault of the participants of the photo charter or the organisers but this individual who has decided to gatecrash the charter and then (stupidly) publish his photographs online.

Its not like me to get involved in a chat like this but ere goes nothing!

Frank is a CVR Volunteer and would there for know with out it being publicized if there was a charter on or not involving a locomotive.

Regardless of this , paying "something" towards the charter wouldn't go a miss! they are not free to run , they cost steaming fee's plus coal, water and other materials to operate, they also cost the time of the crews and organizers to put on.

By the sounds of it the field used by Frank was a charter people only thing, and those there had paid for the right to be in that location - i have no doubt the farmer requested a "cut" to allow this to happen and thus is an extra cost to add in.

From memory, £50 is CHEEP for a charter, i have certainly worked on ones where people have paid upto 70 or 80 quid!

Bottom line, at-least chuck in a £10 frank although to be honest that may well feel like a kick in the knackers to those who paid 50!

Just to correct you, but Frank is NOT a CVR volunteer. The dates were publicly advertised on CVR website to help boost numbers but exact details were only provided to those who actually booked on the charter.

Anyway to go back to the original topic, our first major event of 2013 has now passed, and initial thoughts are that is has been a success. Chris was hoping to find the results out asap before he starts planning 2014 event! Railway still busy this week with 3x Driver Exp courses booked and another Charter. Then we get a small break before an Education Day next week. :)
