Can anyone give an update on the progress or status of the Churnet Valley Railway's steam loco's S160's 5197 and 6046 and 8F 48173 as the MPD website has not been updated for quite a while?

5197 is (or was, as of November) intact but out of ticket awaiting overhaul.

8f is years away. no work is being done on that loco. 5197. also isn't being worked on either as its in the queue after 6046 which was being worked on until the gala but the prairie tank took over after it failed. now that's fixed i presume it Will be back on for 6046. i think Im right in saying Greg Wilson owns all of those locomotives. and he is very busy sorting out mcr as he is one of the main men in that maybe he is to busy. Im just guessing at that tho so Im sure someone from mpd Will know more than a lowly p way worked Haha. Chris moxon might know and he is on here.

I can't speak for steam with too much confidence, but from observations made around the shed (lots of walking round the rolling chassis and an upturned smokebox!), it is my understanding that work has recommenced on 6046.

As Gav106 says, 5197 & 48173 are waiting their turn. A sensible move in my opinion, as 5197 is generating much interest from families etc by being on display outside the shed (on the public side), a more useful role than being in 1000 bits :)

A general visitor can really appreciate the size of the S160's when they can walk round 5197!

6046 returned to the shed after the MCR Re-Opening gala plus completion of 5199 overhaul, and work has indeed recommenced. Motion is presently being fitted, as is pipework for the oil supply to the bearings, steam pipework and air pipes as well. 5197 and 48173 are currently stored awaiting overhaul. Plan is to get 6046 out, followed by 5197 and then 48173.
