With the sad loss of the class 122 unit & 117 unit this year. The MHR have now got the opportunity to have a class 127 unit. Please see web link below for more information.

Thanks for the tip off. Would be good to get useful unit back on the line to compliment 1125.

I take it that the units that have left were privately owned and left due to the owners wishes, not because they were asked to? Otherwise, it seems strange for the Railway to get rid of DMMUs and then have an appeal to bring in a replacement!

    Bean-counter,

Yes you're correct. The 117 and 121 (might have been a 122, but in any case the single "bubble" unit) were privately owned and the owners decided that they wanted to sell the vehicles. For a variety of reasons it wasn't possible for the MHR to purchase them, and so they left to go to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. The MHR took the decision to increase the steam service for next year to compensate for the loss of the DMMUs, though it does leave some off-peak mid-week days on a single train service, every weekend next year will now have two steam service.

The Class 127 was offered to the railway, and as we have the space, and some operations (Thomas, and the Watercress Festival) that would be difficult without a DMU, the MHR said "yes please".

If anyone can give a little to the appeal that would be greatly appreciated. We are hoping to collect the vehicles from the South Devon before the end of this year if we can.
