Common terms and acronyms

Thought it might be a good idea to set up a document with a list of common slang terms etc. used in the heritage community, especially for the novices around.

Not sure what you do to edit it and also what to do when you disagree with a definition already there!
That given for 'fly' shunting is actually called 'loose' shunting and was not generally prohibited and in common use. Fly shunting is where you haul a rake of wagons, uncouple them from the loco whilst on the move and the loco goes one way at a turnout and the wagons are switched to the other line. It was banned, for obvious reasons.
