Consortium picked to design, build and operate North West Rail Link

The Northwest Rapid Transit consortium has won a competition to deliver the infrastructure, rolling stock and signalling system for the $8.3 billion North West Rail Link in Sydney.

Naming the the government’s preferred bidder, NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said the project had ‘reached its most important milestone yet’.

The consortium is made up of: MTR Corporation (Australia), John Holland, Leighton Contractors, UGL Rail Services and Plenary Group.

The Operations, Trains and Systems (OTS) contract includes building eight new stations, supplying the automated rolling stock, building and operating the new stabling and maintenance facility and installing tracks, signalling, mechanical and electrical system.

Once complete, the consortium partners will also be responsible for operating and maintaining the new system.

Berejiklian said: “We attracted the cream of the crop from across Australia and around the world for the operations contract, and I thank everyone involved in both the private sector and Government for all their hard work.
