What's the latest on the extension to Corwen? The railway itself gives very little away on developments other than a webpage which has not changed for months.

Waiting for the Transport & Works Order Act to be issued which authorises construction work in other words planning permission.
In the meantime much behind the scenes work being done such as rails and sleepers are being stockpiled.Last year I walked the trackbed from Carrog- Corwen and met a team of surveyors working on plans and inserting wooden pegs in the trackbed at the site of the new Corwen station. The signal box at Carrog is now fully signalled for through running.

There is a picture of the new Corwen station floating around somewhere. Or at least how it's meant to look like.
Last i herd the temp station will be able to hold 7 coaches and have a run round loop.

There was an article in one of the Steam at Llangollen. See if I can dig it out somewhere. Basically said we can't do much till we have the T&WO which probably wont be granted till the end of the year.

T&WO is now back with the Welsh Assembly. They have 14 days from Friday 17 to raise any objections. If no objections are raised then the paperwork is returned to Westminster who have 42 days to raise any objections. If none are raised, we can then start work if I've understood correctly.

It's all very well saying that the extension will be built when the paperwork is completed. Nobody has yet mentioned the funds (or lack of them !) to build this extension.

Don't count on a train ride to Corwen anytime soon. Not while money is being wasted on stupid projects such as converting the cafe at Llangollen from a period looking room to - er it's so gross I don't really know how to describe it !. They are also converting an RMB to have a long bar to accommodate beer trains which don't run that often. I have heard that it will take 30 years of beer train revenue to recoup the cost of this conversion.

There is an April 2010 update on the LLangollen website, and frankly it makes depressing reading, but is typical of the bureaucratic times we live in. In a nutshell, procrastination at the Welsh Assembly in relation to the T & WO, may mean that the railway misses what looks like a final deadline for accessing a Welsh Assembly funding package for the extension to Corwen.

We get the Governments and the bureaucracy we deserve** , dont we?

** Lest anyone is unsure what I am implying, I mean simply that "we", the great british public, vote 'em in in the first place!!

  17. well The local landowner is very keen to have the railway into corwen as i know only too well lord newborough expressed this very recently to me and a associate

If he's so keen to have the railway extend into Corwen, will he put some money into it, and help us get there a bit quicker?!

this cant actually fail can it?? am i reading things wrong or is it just a case of if it take to long they wont get the grant money. so they would have to raise all the money them selves?? cos that wouldnt stop it all together, just delay things while they take years to raise money.
