I'm trying to get an idea of what a new crosshead casting may cost. I got a quote but it seemed extraordinary high to me and I think I have a good grasp of what things may potentially cost. This was just for the actual casting plus pattern, I know in fairly recent times a few groups in the UK had some cast, so hoping someone can give me an idea even if it is via pm. This is for a project in Australia.

I think you would need to give some idea of size/complexity, before anyone could give you an idea of cost.

What sort of slidebar - slidebars - would it be runnning on? Would it need to be to be connected to outside Walchsaerts valve gear? Is the crosshead white metaled at all?

Could you tell us just what the locomotive is and who built it? Not dependable, but there might still be useful drawings.

Failing a drawing, a photograph would be helpfull. Better photographs would be with some sort of measuremt stick paralel or at a right angle to give scale or if it has been dismanteled and taken down both on a grid - centimeter or inch squares - and simply from all six sides plus any likely angles.

The new crosss head will need some machining before it is fitted and erected of course. Would you have any of the details towards this, possibly as CAD?

The Hawksworth County project have recently done one, they might be worth talking to

With the prices of steel, fuel and labour shooting up, I suspect the price you found in the past may be of limited guidance.
