Does anyone know what sort of state 45593 is in, the only information I can find on the web says " out of use at tyseley locomotive works". Not much use really, any clues on whether it is being overhauled or any plans to return it to steam.
I want to know because it has seemingly disappeared from the public eye for a number of years, and I have an affinity with this engine as it was one of the first locomotives I saw during my first visit to barrow hill in the early 2000s as a toddler, so I would like to see it return.
Any information would be much appreciated

Last I read was it would be overhauled once Clun Castle is finished. So currently, it's in store awaiting it's turn, but next on the list.

This bit gave me a nasty shock. How can anyone who was a toddler this century be grown up enough to post on forums? Early 2000s was just a few weeks ago, surely! Made me feel ancient...

You're young too! I'm just about old enough to remember Jubilees when they were still in traffic....

Strewth, you certainly know how to make a fella feel old.:( I used to see it usually in the yard at Holbeck MPD when it was still in service. Sometimes we got it on the Liverpool -Newcastle service over the hills of the Leeds "New" line with a black 5 piloting.
    Happy days.

Andrew mentions "when his hair was black":( I don'[t want to get in to a "livery debate" about hair colour but ......who cares what colour it is?......I'd be happy if I had some hair.........just a bit would do,:Arghh: :(

And I'm old enough to remember an awful lot of aeroplanes passing over! I'm told that on a journey from Derby to Aberdeen in 1945 my mother didn't manage to get me to sleep until we reached Dundee. Unfortunately I was too young to write down the numbers so don't ask me what was on shed:)!

First Jubilee back in traffic will be Bahamas, I think 45593 has now sunk further down the queue pity as it could have been possible to see all four in action together

It's superb on anything. Look how much better it looks than green or black on a Hall (thanks Harry Potter), a WC (ditto), a GW prairie (LT150), an Ivatt Mogul (Mr Beet I believe)....
    Scotsman, anyone?

It would be nice to have one of the four jubilees in LMS red

Honestly, I think it looks terrible on a hall, a hall shouldn't be that colour, it should be black or green, and one thing that's always confused me in the film is i it's called hogwarts castle, why didn't they use a castle class, a hall named after a castle just feels wrong, especially when there's, as a Northerner, arguably too many preserved castles (and not a single L&Y 0-8-0 :(), the colour on Olton hall looks, to my eyes anyway, too dark to be proper Crimson lake, I think it looks more the BR Crimson than the midland shade.

And in response to all the age stuff, I reckon I was born at the wrong time, I love steam trains and heritage aircraft, most of my peers at school only know a steam train goes chuff chuff, me on the other hand , I see the railway in everything, the sports relief text number is 70010, and I thought, hey up, that would be a Britannia, 'Owen Glendower' if memory serves correct, but I digress, I wish I was born in the 30s then I'd have grown up with steam, and just been too young to be called up for service during WW2, one can dream eh?

The simple answer is that There aren't many operational Castles and I don't think Vintage Trains or The GWS would want there locos disfigured in that way.
As for your second point, I think we could all say we were born at the wrong time but it's nice to see some younger people taking an interest is steam. Most of the events I attend are dominated by old codgers like me. The one thing I do regret was not having the resources to do more back in the 60s, I never got to the North East and the Cambrian before it was too late.

I can understand getting irked by inaccuracies in historical films (BR Stock in WWII being a favourite), but complaining about them in a chidrens fantasy story might be stretching it a bit!.

Besides which the Hall does look a lot better in the red than in BR b*****y lined black...

I think some locos suit certain liveries. I like Jubilees in both Crimson lake LMS livery and in green, same with Princesses and Duchesses. I'm not keen on Black 5s in LMS lined black though, think BR lined black suits them better.

In general I like a bit of a mixture, some in pre nationalisation and some in BR. My model railway is like this.

I'm the same, my model railway fleet is a bit of an eclectic mix, from apple green LNER A2s to early LMS style lettering on ex LNWR G2as, and then a BR green class 24 rubbing shoulders with them, along with a BR blue class 111 DMU.
But my argument is that it's a preserved railway, so I can justify the mix :)
