Bit late posting these - caught swine flu just after I got back and spent 10 days with hardly any energy (or interest in photting) as a result.

What a superb weekend. The Czechs certainly know how to run a steam event over a whole weekend and the variety of loco-hauled services on their normal railway operation is amazing. I'll be back :)

Nice pics - foreign steam rarely disappoints. If it does you can always have a decent beer!

I am a big fan of 52s and the pic of 555 0301 intrigues me. The engine appears to be in Russian livery as TE 3644 (DR 52 3664) and the Czech running number is 555 0301 (the last one in the original Czech series was 0300). The fantastic book - The German 52 Kriegslok shows TE 3644 at Kaliningrad in 92 and preserved. I assume this is the same engine and therefore never in CZ stock? Wonder what it is doing in the Czech Republic now?

The last Czech 52 was withdrawn in 73 but two were sold to coal mines in Yugo in 1960. One of these 555 0153 (52 7620) was returned to the Czech republic in 2001 and steamed in 2003. Not sure where it is now?

    I enjoyed checking those facts!

    Cheers,

And I enjoyed reading them :) Up till that point I had no real idea of its history. I gather from the locals that it wasn't uncommon for some Czechoslovakian loco's to have the red star on the smokebox in the communist era, but to be honest I'm only just getting to grips with the history aspect. Work in progress!

Yes they did carry large cast stars except for two years during the ''Prague Spring'' when they were removed. They returned in the early 1970s. In recent years the stars (as symbols of communist rule) have been banned but it seems the rules are now a little more relaxed.
