Freight operator DB Schenker Rail (UK) has announced the appointment of its new chief executive, Geoff Spencer.

Mr Spencer, who has spent the last three years as Head of European Resource Management in the company’s European office in Mainz, will return to the UK to take over the role in September.

Alain Thauvette, who will retain his role as chairman, said: “I am delighted to welcome Geoff Spencer back to the UK and I believe that the vast experience he has gained throughout his railway career – both operational and managerial – will allow him to lead DB Schenker Rail UK to achieving its financial and operational targets.”

Before taking up his first management role, Mr Spencer was a train driver for British Rail.
