Apparently DBSchenker has taken a decision to scrap a plinthed preserved BR 52 for scrap in Poland.

It's condition is described as complete and externally restored.

Ive not seen this locomotive myself, but the pictures below in 2008 show the condition to be very good, especially when compared to several wrecks in Poland... I'd be surprised if the sale price was much above £10k. (an Ol49 was sold for scrap for £4k 2 years ago by a regional government).

Disgraceful decision. Let's hope common sense prevails.

I'm starting to lose count of all the historic artefacts that are being destroyed this year. Doesn't anyone care for our heritage anymore?

As nothing compared to the numbers that have been scrapped in the old USSR.

The generation that cared about these things is slowly passing . It's a harsh fact but what relevance does a former DB class 52 locomotive have to today's generation ? I suspect the creeping elfin safety and our society that seems happy to vandalise and pillage anything we can means that it's better to officially vandalise something before someone else does

now where is my euromillion win

Good to see word of mouth out there can still prevail.

According to the site, LokReport ( a quite influential german railway site) translated the article which has drawn appropriate attention.

Whilst you cant save everything, if it's not a write off and it's not in the way.. let it be.

The problem is accountancy.. which see's several "scrap" locomotives in their catalog without knowing what it is.. and consigns history.

I wonder how long before an accountant sees G-BOAA-G in a BA catalog of non-flying airframes and says lets sell for scrap without asking what they are.
