DB to invest €40m in video surveillance

    Deutsche Bahn (DB) is to invest 40 million euros in improving CCTV systems across the German rail network.

    The new cameras will improve coverage at some of the country’s key stations.

    There are currently 4,800 cameras at around 640 stations around the country, with a further 18,000 onboard video cameras.

    Over the next 10 years, DB is expecting to see the total investment in surveillance systems increase to 60 million euro with the aid of government backing.

    Chief executive of DB Dr Rüdiger Grube said: “Safety is our top priority. We are already investing a lot and [we want to] build this good level even further.”
