Deadline looms for Bridgnorth share issue

There’s just over three weeks to go before the Severn Valley Railway’s Bridgnorth development project share issue closes on October 31.

Funds raised by the share issue stand at £1.7 million, but the railway needs the full £2.5 million to ensure it can implement Phases 1 and 2 of the project.

Approximately £10,000 was raised towards the project during the railway’s recent ‘Autumn Steam Gala’ on September 21-24, but the railway needs to raise a further £800,000 if it is to reach its target by the deadline.

Launched on November 1 2016, the share issue aims to raise £2.5 million towards the railway’s development of its northern terminus, including a new GWR-style refreshment room and installing a turntable.

Phase 1, which is currently underway, will in addition to the new refreshment room and toilet block, see the original neo-Jacobean station building restored to its former glory and allow for the reinstatement of the original booking hall and waiting room. The Railwayman’s Arms pubs will also be enlarged.

Phase 2 involves the installation of the former Bristol Bath Road turntable in the locomotive yard, allowing engines to be turned at Bridgnorth for the first time in the SVR’s history.
