The Dean Forest Railway are holding a special fortnight long event to celebrate not only 200 years of the Severn & Wye Railway, but also the 40th anniversary since the formation of the Dean Forest Railway Society.

GWR 3717 'City of Truro' is visiting the railway for the event with the resident fleet (1450, 5521, 9681) also in service.

The main gala weekend is over 26th/27th June featuring all four steam locos but a two-train service also runs on 19th, 20th, 23rd, 24th, 30th June plus the 1st, 3rd and 4th July.

Locomotive rosters can be bought on the day.

***MAIN GALA THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND!*** --- SAT/SUNDAY 26/27TH JUNE --- ALL FOUR STEAM LOCOMOTIVES IN ACTION --- AUTO, GOODS, DOUBLE HEADING ETC --- ROSTERS IN PROGRAM COSTING £1.50

Refreshments available at Lydney Junction and a paintings display/sale at Norchard (or at least there was last weekend). All the attractions from the previous post also apply.

Also something special, belonging to the NRM too, that has just under gone some repair work at Norchard, will make a round trip per day over the main gala weekend between Norchard Low Level and Lydney Junction, light engine both ways and both days.

Looking forward to popping by on the Sunday afternoon.

Any clues as to what the mystery extra NRM loco is? I'm turning up just after lunchtime, so hope I won't miss it...

    Cheers,

    Phil.

DFR galas are always good fun with intensive "anything goes" timetables mixing up everything as best they can with a relatively small number of locos. Parkend was a great place to be in the sunshine with Truro simmering in the platform. And the Rocket replica was a welcome surprise and very entertaining in between movements on the "high level line".
