    01 1075

35 years in service with the German railways.
29 years in main line service with the SSN, Rotterdam. Owned by them for 45 years.

Main line trips over Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, far into Germany, double main line running up the ramp at Bebra. The fastest and most powerful steam locomotive in the Netherlands, with 2350 horsepower.

Hats off to the skilled men at the SSN for keeping her running on the main line all this time, without a single major failure!

Well remembered from their final days on the Rheine - Norddeich Mole line. My favourite moment was the cab ride on 012066 and photographing a northbound 012075 from the footplate - passing speed over 150 mph. HAAPPY days !

Yes, happy days Fred. In Summer 74 we spent 3 days linesiding between Rheine and Emden but never got as far as Norddeich unfortunately.
    All the best,
    Ray.

This was 01 1075 in 1976, just arrived in Rotterdam, and parked on a short siding by the RMO signal box.

When I said it was owned by the SSN of 45 years, the actual purchaser at the time was a primary school teacher, who grouped it with the purchaser of 23 023 under the wing of the new trust, SSN.

All attention went to reactivating the class 23, and we were told that 01.1075 would never run on the main line in Holland, as it was 'too heavy'. So it sat there, waiting. But you have to have a dream.

Over time, the main lines were beefed up (I recall triple headed iron ore trains leaving the port) and in part thanks to a legacy, the SSN was able to send 01.1075 and its frost damaged feedwater pump to Meiningen.

It's amazing how things can change, so don't lose hope.

The SSN were told they would never run anything on the main line.
We were told in particular 01.1075 would never run on the main line.
We were told to leave the Spaanse Polder site, with no compensation.
We were told we could not use the new tunnel under the river Maas.

    It all happened though :)

01.1075 is still rolling though ! Only Covid defeated it, they've had to cancel their Christmas special.
