The mainline steam scene wont be the same without Bill. I always find him a true gent he always has a smile and a kind word for everyone. His driving skills are legendary as members of this forum will know. I hope he enjoys a long and healthy retirement.

One of life's true gentlemen. He always made time to speak to support crew members and make them feel part of the railway family.

And all those who have been lucky enough to travel with him on the footplate will know what a perfectionist he is.

A fine gentleman, and legendry footplateman. He will be missed dearly from mainline steam. And hopefully the younger generation can follow in his footsteps!

Will he 'retire' to a Heritage Railway or will we really seen the last of him after his last trip? There is a gold mine of information there which would be a shame to lose.

I believe he will be taking a more active role at the Heritage Centre.
