    Today BBC "Midlands Today" carried a piece about the reopening of the 5-mile Droitwich Barge canal from the River Severn to the "salt" town of Droitwich, after some 37 years of restoration, mainly by volunteers. A substantial canal basin awaits visitors arriving by canal in the future.

    There still remains to be completed the short Droitwich Junction canal to link Droitwich to the Worcester & Birmingham canal to the east of the town. It is hoped this can be completed in 2011.
