I have a spare day (possibly two) on a trip to the Netherlands next month. Anyone suggest which steam heritage line should be top of the list for a visit? Thanks in advance

Try this link for a useful English Language summary and links to individual railway sites:

The main constraints are likely to be operating days and locations (depending on where you are staying and how you are travelling). Agree that Hoorn-Medemblik is worth a visit - easily accessed by train or car (large pay car park nearby), main running shed freely accessible, some interesting and nicely restored stock and a pleasant ride if you have time. National Railway Museum at Utrecht should not to be missed (closed Mondays). Have a good trip.

I can recommend the preserved line from Schin op Geul (near Maastricht) to Kerkrade - Swedish 0-8-0 doing the honours when I went, also nice village cafe at Ejs intermediate stop.

VSM at Appledoorn also excellent - the Gala in September is the best time. but does run some weekdays at other times of the year - August probably your best bet for mid-week operations.

    Hello,

That's the Zuid Limburgsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij, look at www.zlsm.nl for details. And yes, I was thinking of that as well. Easily accessible by rail with main line stations at both ends! They run Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

    Kind regards

    Christoph
