Electric Preserved Railway Appeal

There has been some talk recently on another email group (sorry if
you read this message a number of times today... hope my message
gets through though!) about the possibility of a preserved railway
running with 3rd rail...

What has become apparent to me and a few other members of the SeMG
is that if we are to ever see a 3rd rail preserved railway, no
matter how unlikely, we need to start working towards it now.
There is no point sitting on our a*ses for the next 20 years
debating whether it is possible or not, to then be confronted with
the opportunity to acquire a 3rd rail line and not be prepared.

What I am asking, is if you could email me off group if you are
genuinly interested in seeing a 3rd rail preserved line in the
future, or if you have experience/knowledge in the running of a
preserved line. Optimists, pessimists, dreamers or realists... I
don't care what you are, I would just like to see some form of group
or society formed soon (even if it is somewhat informal for some
time) to work towards achieving the goal of a preserved electric
railway.

It possibly may not happen, but if we don't do something towards
making it happen, we will never know. What is required is contacting
the HSE and finding out exactly what they say with regards to having
3rd rail on a preserved line, is planning and making preparations
for the possibility of it happening, etc.

Please do not gaze over my plea for your help, I want to see a 3rd
rail unit/loco work under its own power in preservation, as I am
sure many of you would like to as well. I have also realised that
this is less likely to happen unless people get together and focus
their efforts, I hope you all realise this as well and get in
contact.

I shall be putting a similar message out on other forums and e-
groups to try and get as many people in on this as possible. If you
could forward this onto anyone who may be interested, I would be
most greatful.
