    Hi All

    http://www.embsayboltonabbeyrailway.org.uk/harvesto.html

Hope I am not duplicating a thread here.

"2009 will see the gala take palce at the end of September, and will feature BR Standard Class 2 No.78019 visiting from the Great Central Railway for the event only (subject to availability).

Monckton and Darfield will also be on trains, subject to availability, and the event may see the return to traffic of Beatrice.

Regular services will depart from Embsay and Bolton Abbey stations, featuring the normal passenger set of Mk.Is, the Stately Trains six-wheelers as well as demonstration goods trains.

More details and timetables will be posted here shortly"

Hope the fourth steam loco is available to keep the event diesel free this year.

    Best Regards

As Monckton failed weekend before last ,they might need more visitors to keep it diesel free.

Bad luck, especially when 140 failed last year before the gala, hope a magic wand can sort things out and keep the diesels away.

Why not borrow Alfred and Judy after their Tanfield visit 2 weeks earlier? or even a home fleet Tanfield loco?

When is 6619 due back to NYMR ex NNR?

I guess if money grew on trees etc........

    Best of luck.

Any news on the gala? Is it too late to request Darfield on a nice heavy train for the last run? :D

    Gala update

Contrary to expectations, Monckton has now been fixed and is back in traffic.

We have not managed to obtain an additional locomotive, so there will be one diesel involved to ensure the timetable works:

Trains will depart every half hour from both stations.
There will be one MkI passenger set (4 coaches)
There will be the three Stately Trains 6-wheelers as the vintage set
There will be a goods train (exact number of wagons to be confirmed the day before, depending on the works carried out). However, there will be a lot!!

Full timetable is now being typed up and will be available in the next day or two.

Any chance of 31119 or D2203 if crews are available? :D

    ... Well it's worth asking!

    Thanks for the update Tim

Look forward to seeing the timetable.

Hope the similar credit crunch diesel gala fare structure remains for this event as well.

Any one from D1524, D5600 or D2203 to keep it "green theme"

D5600 did the Saturday at the last Harvest and D1524 the Sunday from memory.

It will be D.5600 unless something untoward happens - the green theme is key here, I think. Had we been able to hire another engine at the same time, we wouldn't have needed any diesels. Or if Beatrice was finished. Or No.22. Or Illingworth. Or Warspite. Or Primrose.

All possibles for next year (and some certains!)

    Tim

    Hi Robert

The July Diesel Gala at Embsay would of been ideal for you with 31119, D2203, 08773, D9513, D1524, 37294, No.36 (and D5600) all for haulage, date for diary next year?

Was a great weekend, looking forward to the steam one as well.

    Best Regards

Meant to do that one, can't remember why it slipped through the net! Ah well, as you say, next year...

Incidentally, Robert Heath is the name of a loco (and a 17th century Knight, as it happens, but no connection!), but as I've just noticed I haven't got my name in my signature you can hardly be blamed for that assumption :D

    updates

There was a full timetable ready to go to print...

...however, there is now an added complication that Monckton has died again, very likely terminally this time. The firebox is worn out.

So back to the drawing board.

Should have it sorted by tonight, but I'm afraid it will be somewhat less than we were aiming for. Probably 40 minute frequency, with less swapping of locos.

    Tim

Ah well, should still be a good gala as long as Darfield has an enthusiastic crew! \\:D/

That is very bad luck, keep the timetable as it "mixed traffic weekend" using D5600, D1524, Darfield and 78019, would be great in my humble opinion.

    Best of luck.

Yes I am an active volunteer
I must agree, I will never forget the performance last year with Darfield, I remember about 10 of us on Skibeden bridge and they wacked her open for us with the freight and she blew the bridge to bits... Could have been dangerous if anyone was stood above the running line... It wasn't fixed when I was last about mid July so watch out to those of you going...

    Here's the clip at about 3:20... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNdi97QZ2eM

I will also remember the departure from Stoneacre loop too... was truely fantastic... which was in part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylKm7R9CZlk&feature=related at about 3:00

I do wish I was able to attend this year as you've always been regarded as one of the top gala places in my opinion, never mind maybe next year.

Good luck to all you at the railway and I look forward to the footage & Photos that appear on here next weekend.

As we have billed it as a steam gala already, we are trying to limit the diesels. And the 47 isn't running at the moment - time has been spent on D.5600 for this event! The 14 needs the starter motor rebuilding (VERY dead), the 04 is limited until the bottom end gets thoroughly rebuilt, the other 31 is a little 'bright' (ice cream van has been mentioned!) and the 37 is grey and needs the fuel filters cleaning out and an agreement to run.

I now have a provisional timetable (lost track of how many different options we went through last night). Basically the locos out pull everything at some point through the day, but I need to pass it on for checking before it gets published. Services will be every 40 minutes from both stations.

Goods should be 14 or 15 wagons - quite a lot running for the first time properly...

I'll publish what I can, when I can. It will be available on the day in printed form, with the first departure from Embsay *currently* the goods at 09:50, with D.5600, piloted to Stoneacre by 78019.

Locos *currently* swap round at Embsay.
