Yes I am an active volunteer
The re-opening of the Epping to Ongar Railway has taken another step forwards, with the announcement of the appointment of its General Manager, as the project steams forward towards re-opening the branch.
The owner and President of the Volunteers Society, Roger Wright, has appointed Simon Hanney as the railway’s Manager, to push forward the infrastructure improvements which are already well advanced, to prepare the safety and training paperwork, and to improve the coordination and enjoyment of the volunteer teams.
Roger Wright Comments: "Simon has been very active in the railway’s developments, and has held the position of Secretary to the Volunteer Society for the last 2 years. He has also worked tirelessly towards the design and installation of a new signalling system, to meet the operational requirements of the line both now and when we run to Epping. He has been active in Heritage railway volunteering and operations since 1997 and, in addition to his new duties, intends to continue as a volunteer in his spare time."
Simon Hanney comments: "I am delighted to be taking on this new role, and the railway has really got a "buzz" as it embarks upon the final steps for its re-opening. The long-overdue infrastructure work is progressing well, and with sufficient volunteers a re-opening is achievable within a short timespan. Both Roger and I are looking forward to bringing steam and heritage diesel to the line, enabling green tourism to the area, economic benefits as well as a step towards reinstating this important rail transport link back to Epping for the local communities."

Simon will be taking up the post from 01/03/10, and is available on the contact details below:
