I'm slowly working my way through some shots from a week long trip to Eritrea earlier this month, organised by Mike Tyack.

Lovely to see the old girls at work again, a shame that non are operational in Italy.

Yes, Italy is a bit easier to get to than Eritrea! Lovely place, but a bit frustrating at times. The checks at the airport have to be seen to be believed. It's as if they don't want you to enter the country, but then don't want you to leave at the end. 17 different checks of passport, boarding pass, baggage and currency forms on the return. The ticket check at the bottom and the again at the top of the steps to the aircraft was a nice touch!

I would love to see some close ups if you have any. Did you see the 440 as well? There were also some 202's of which 1 was capable of steaming last time I heard.

We had the 440 for a day and a half. There was a 202 in steam at the shed one evening as well. I have a load more photos I haven't sorted out yet, including stuff from around the works. There was a pile of cylinders and frame sections dumped around a palm tree behind the works, must've been 5 Mallets worth. A boiler and 2 smokeboxes too, plus hundreds of wheels. Such a depressing sight.

In total I think we saw the 440, 2 operational 202s, 4 dumped 202s, 3 operational 442s, 1 under overhaul and 1 dumped. The Littorina was outside the shed at Asmara, the baby Littorina was inside the shed along with a Krupp Bo-Bo diesel and a Russian truck loco. 2 Drewry shunters were round the back of the goods shed too.

Many thanks for the reply. If you don't mind I will link these photos from an Italian forum as well?

Certainly Adrian, feel free. I've uploaded a load more photos that I'll move into the set when I get a chance, mainly shed shots.

PS. Would you mind sending the Italian forum link please?

    Cheers, Nigel.

Thanks Adrian. If you order by midnight tonight, use the code HONEYMOON for a 25% discount. I've also done a large landscape version, mainly for a personal record of the trip, but that's priced at £70!

The standard landscape version with image wrap cover works out at 27p per photo, which works out even cheaper than using Jessops to print them at a similar size.
