Gertrude travelled to Boston Lodge this afternoon en route to the NEC at Birmingham. Work on the Porthmadog Bypass had prevented the loco from being transported from Gelert's Farm by road, so it will be collected from Minffordd on Wednesday. F&WHR diesel Criccieth Castle did the honours.

Fantastic! Lovely to see the two railways working happily together. Looking forward to seeing Gertrude at Warley!

Not sure whether this is the right place for this post, but ... when I visited the railway in August I was disappointed to find that a Portacabin had been installed at Boston Lodge overlooking the western end of the cob. Now, while can understand that operational needs pretty well trump all others, it was a damned eyesore and it ruined a favourite photo spot. Is it going to stay?

    Regards

It was a temporary tool store for Kids Training Week. It's gone now.

Thanks for that, I wonder if there's going to be a Kids Training Week next August? Probably will.

For anyone around Port tomorrow, the Mallet is taking Gertrude back from Minffordd to Tremadog Road at around 0900.

This seems like the appropriate sub-forum to post in...

Does any one have any info/pics on where the Russell restoration is up to? When I lived in Port just over a year ago, I knew the lad who was running the restoration so managed to see it a few times, but since then have unfortunately lost track of progress...

I see from the unofficial WHR news site that on the 9th to 12th of December both railways will be restoring their main lines where the Bypass Haul Road Crossing has disrupted it. From the message, title 'One team - two main lines' and other content it seems that this is along the lines of a _joint_ working party. At the very least there is only one point of contact given for it, for both railways, Paul Bradshaw. Whether this is an 'official' joint effort or not I have no idea.

PS: I have no connection with either railway.

It is a joint effort and even I'm working on it.

Looking at the webcam a few moments ago there are people working on the cob widening project at Porthmadog as I write but the weather seems to be dreadful!

Not exactly hot news I know, but I have recently added some more pictures from
the Superpower weekend to my flickr site. If anyone is interested to see them,
they are in the 'Stop Press! Latest Pictures!!' collection in the Set dated 29th
    November. Here's the link :

Collection: Stop Press! Latest Pictures!! (Updated : 9th December)

This is a temporary collection and they will only be there for a month or two.
However, they can also be found in the 'Welsh Highland Railway Superpower 2011'
    set which is here :
Welsh Highland Railway : Superpower 2011 - a set on Flickr

Hope that they are still of interest.
